ASCP Brisbane Forum & CPEE Concrete Pavement Design and Constrution Course

The 29th Biennial National Conference of the Concrete Institute of Australia was held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney, NSW. Taking place from 8th of September to 11th of September 2019. The focused theme for Concrete 2019 was: 'Concrete in Practice –Progress through Knowledge'.

 A number of Australian Standards relevant to the Sampling & Testing of Aggregates have been published recently. The purpose of the Standard is to provide general information on the requirements of standard pieces of equipment used throughout the AS 1141 series for the testing of aggregate and rock for engineering purposes.

In June 2019, the Sydney City Council along with University of NSW and Wagners Concrete worked together to lay 15 metres of Geopolymer Concrete in a busy street of Sydney. The project was part of 7 years of research together with UNSW and the Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living, which saw the concrete laid to undergo 5 years of testing against regular concrete laid as a control. 

The beneficial use of coal combustion products (CCPs) during 2018 resulted in 5.936 million tonnes or 47% being beneficially used, resulting in the conservation of; energy; finite natural resources, the reduction of carbon emissions through the recovery of CCPs being mineral by-product resources.

In the first trial of its kind, we’ve taken industrial waste from coal-fired power stations and steel manufacturing to create a new roadway. Working with researchers from the University of NSW, we’ve replaced a section of roadway on Wyndham Street in Alexandria to test the green concrete’s durability. Made from fly ash and blast furnace slag, geopolymer concrete is a sustainable blend of concrete and recycled materials.

World of Coal Ash 2019 proceedings have been posted online. The papers join an archive of presentations from previous WOCA symposia.

The South African Coal Ash Association (SACAA) will be convening stakeholders across the ash reuse value chain to identify collaboration opportunities to accelerate the use of coal ash with the aim of job creation and positive contribution to the South African economy.

World of Coal Ash 2019 will be held May 13-16, 2019, in St. Louis, Missouri. The conference is a one-stop shop for the science, technology, and public policy outlook for CCR management.

Standards Australia have advised that the AS 1141 series of the below Amendment projects are now out for Public Comment.

The Australian Society for Concrete Pavements (ASCP) will be holding their Concrete Pavements Forum in Brisbane on 10 April 2019. Registration is open until 5 April. 

In a world-first project, researchers and NSW Ports have incorporated waste from coal-fired power stations into low carbon Geopolymer concrete.

In April 2019, the Concrete Institute of Australia will present a seminar titled “The New AS3600-2018 Concrete Structures Code – What Impact Will It Have On You?”, focusing specifically on the recently released AS 3600 code and the challenges it presents to the construction industry.

Following almost two years of consensus building discussions, the definition of what constitutes Class C and Class F fly ashes is now officially changed in the United States.  The American Coal Ash Association during their recent Winter meeting reported the likelyhood of changes to come.  

International Conference on Coal Science & Technology (ICCS&T 2019) is one of the world's top conferences in the field of coal research which typically gathers several hundred delegates from around the world. ICCS&T 2019 will be held in Krakow, Poland from 24-28 November 2019. 

The IEA Clean Coal Centre is holding a free workshop to present some of the leading new coal technologies, from 6-7th March 2019 in Poland.

AGL DECISION TO SUSPEND SUPPLY OF COAL COMBUSTION PRODUCTS 

The Ash Development Association of Australia (ADAA) representing Australian coal-fired power stations and marketers[1] of power station coal combustion products (CCPs), supports the decision by AGL’s Bayswater Power Station[2]  to suspend CCPs distribution until a full investigation is conducted into claims about elevated levels of trace metals.
