Utility Solid Waste Activities Group (USWAG) is the peak body responsible for addressing waste issues on behalf of the stationary power (utility) industry. USWAG formed in 1978 is a trade association of over 110 utility operating companies, energy companies and industry associations, including the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), the American Public Power Association (APPA), and the American Gas Association (AGA).
USWAG engages in regulatory advocacy pertaining to; Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and Hazardous Materials Transportation Act (HMTA) all of which contain references coal combustion products. Their mission is; To address the regulation of utility wastes, byproducts and materials in a manner that protects human health and the environment and is consistent with the business needs of its members.
